ADMISSIONS

Little Acorns (Colleton) Pre-school is open to every family in the local community and we make every effort to ensure that the group is genuinely accessible to all.  We are registered for 26 children per session.

PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT

Children of all ages benefit greatly from the involvement of Parents and Carers in their education.  All Parents and Carers are encouraged to participate in the life of the Pre-school as fully as they wish to.  Parents are asked to attend two Pre-school sessions per term at which they will have the opportunity to watch the group in action, to take part in group activities and to talk to staff about their own child’s progress.

CURRICULUM

Little Acorns (Colleton) Pre-school aims to provide a comprehensive curriculum for children under statutory school age that meets the needs of each individual child attending the group.

Our Pre-school curriculum fulfils the requirements of the Early Learning Goals.  The curriculum includes: Communicaton, Language and Literacy, Mathematical Development, Knowledge and Understanding of the World, Creativity, Physical Development, Personal, Social and Emotional Development.  It takes into consideration the individual needs of the children and the need to ensure equality of opportunity.

Our Daily Session

Children start the session with their key group practitioner. The main benefit for the child is that they complete their structured activity, small group time with a small, consistent group of children. The Key adult will introduce the planned activity and the children use the materials in a variety of ways. Morning groups will do four different activities over the week and afternoon groups will do five.

The children have free play, known as work time, with children planning what they are going to do before moving away from the key adult. This will allow for new or quiet children to stay close to their key adult.

At the end of work time, a whistle gives the signal for tidy up time followed by story time/recall with their key adult. Two groups will have a story and recall in the quiet room and the other two in the main room again with their key group practitioners. At this time the children will recall what they have done during work time.

- The children will remember and reflect on actions and experiences
- Associate plans, actions and outcomes
- Talk with others about personally meaningful experiences
.
The children then have their snack in a large group followed by large group time in our large outside area. During wet days children will take part in dance, movement, musical instruments, exercise or circle time activities with their Key adults in both rooms.

Our daily time table is as follows:-

08.45 a.m. / 12.35 p.m. Registration and show and tell with key worker

BEHAVIOUR
Children are expected to show care and consideration for themselves, the other children and adults within the group.  Children are expected to treat the group’s equipment and premises with care.  The group will work to reinforce good behaviour rather than give attention for undesirable behaviour.  Parents/Carers are expected to support the staff in this

Children will be discourated from disruptive and inconsiderate behaviour, which could lead to them being upset or injured, or for deliberately causing damage to equipment or premises. At no time will any form for physical or humiliating punishment be used and it will always be made clear to a chiod that it is the behaviour that is unwelcome rather than the child. Parents/Carers will be informed of any problems. It is essential for the well being of the child and the group that Parents/Carers support staff in encouraging good behaviour.

CONFIDENTIALITY

The Pre-school recognises that the relationship between Parents, Child and Group is based on trust.  All records, conversations and correspondence between the Group and Parents/Carers are held in the strictest confidence by both staff and committee members.
