A brief History of the Pre-School

Soon after The  Colleton School was opened, a ‘Mother and Child’ club was formed for Mothers with pre-school children, meeting in the school hall once a week.

The club was very successful, but as the number of children in school increased, it became impossible to accommodate the group.  A decision was made to try to find other premises and a ‘Building Committee’ was formed.  Planning permission was finally obtained to lease part of the school site to the Colleton School Association (PTA).  The building was erected by the manufacturers and all fittings, plumbing and decorating was done by willing parents.

The name ‘Cuboid’ was chosen from suggestions by the children in a competition.

Until 1999, the Pre-school was run jointly by The Colleton School Association and The Colleton Pre-school committee comprising parents of Pre-school children.  In 1998 it was felt that the Pre-school would benefit from its own independent, dedicated team and, in turn, allow the CSA to concentrate on the school.

The newly named Little Acorns (Colleton) Pre-school continues to operate as previously, the only visible difference to the community being the revised name and logo – a necessary step in achieving its independent charity status.  The Pre-School is run by a committee comprising of our parents.
